The idea of growing plants indoors under advanced LEDS first took root in 2022. After some planning and watching many Youtube videos, we officially built our 1.0 system on January 5, 2024. It featured 2 hydroponic towers and 5 shelves. While it couldn’t produce large quantities, it provided a useful opportunity to learn and experiment with growing plants more efficiently.
Within a few months, we successfully grew many plants on the shelves, but the hydroponic towers yielded little to no harvest, leaving us uncertain about the system’s viability. Not wanting to abandon it, we introduced fish to the room and began exploring aquaponics, a sustainable farming method that combines aquaculture with hydroponics. Within weeks, we achieved a remarkable harvest. By the end of 2024 and into early 2025, we had cultivated over 50 different types of plants.
In the summer of 2025, we decided to scale up, embracing the opportunity to push the boundaries of modern agriculture and incorporate groundbreaking technology. Everything that limited 1.0 was addressed in 2.0: advanced ventilation, upgraded LED grow lights, etc. 2.0 has 13 six-foot tall shelves, and 3 aquaponic towers capable of producing 300+ plants per month. We even implemented systems to generate our own power.
2.0 was designed not only for higher yields but also to explore the future of agriculture. At Goforth Produce, we believe indoor farming is the future of farming.
